The fabulous r4i offers the user the ability to store extra files on their Nintendo DSi or DS console that they previously couldn't. It is also compatible with the latest DS consoles such as the 3DS.

R4i DS

R4 cards have been in the technological world of Nintendo for a long time now. It was created to enhance and boost the capabilities of the Nintendo DS game systems. However, since the technological advancements were inevitable, the typical R4 cards started to become incompatible with the latest Nintendo DSi console. Thus, the R4i DS cards came into existence.

This new R4i is fully compatible with the Nintendo DSi console, but one does not necessarily need to get the latest console to use R4i, as it has backwards compatibility as well with all the older versions of the Nintendo DS consoles. It offers capabilities that were not possible before, such as listening to music, watching videos/movies, browse pictures, and even being able to read e-books all from the Nintendo DSi consoles.

The R4i is of the same size as a standard Nintendo DS game cartridge, which easily fits into the same slot as the game cartridges. It consists of a micro SD memory card that contains all the files needed on the console. This SD card goes into the adapter, which goes into the DS console. Having a proper micro SD card for the R4i DS is a bit tricky as it depends on the usage and the size of files one needs to store and use. Generally, a 2GB card is sufficient for light users, but a 4GB card is usually used by most people. However, if one is a hardcore user that has a large collection of music or video files, then it even supports larger card like an 8GB or 16GB micro SD cards up to a capacity of 32GB.

This R4i DS card has revolutionized the DS console into a multi media machine. As mentioned earlier, it is of the same size as a game cartridge, which makes it possible to use the console not just for games, but it can be used to watch movies, listening to music, watching pictures and reading e-books. All one needs to do is install the adapter with a Micro SD memory card, and have the R4i software, which allows access to these files and play on the Nintendo DS or the Nintendo DSi console. To get the most benefit out of these R4i cards, one needs to make sure to have the latest version of the R4i software, which is also known in the market as the R4i Kernel or the R4i system files.

A few things to keep in mind however when using Micro SD cards above 4GB, is to always keep the files organized into folders and sub folders, as the R4 and R4i revolution cards have been known to cause issues at times with huge amount of files. However, the R4i DS cards is a very significant evolution in the multi-media world, and it is recommended to get the R4i DS card even if using an older console, as there is always a scope for upgrading as new technologies are discovered.
